Mixed Martial Arts(MMA), also known as cage fighting, is an umbrella term for the combat sport based on striking, grappling, and ground fighting. The rules allow the combatants to use a variety of martial arts techniques including punches, kicks, joint-locks, chokes, takedowns and throws. A cage fighter can win through knock-out, submission, or stoppage by the referee, the fight doctor, or a competitor's cornerman. MMA has also been proved to be the most practical combat system and effective self-defence method.
A fighter's best strategy is to determine the phase in which he has the most significant advantage over his opponent and then to force the fight to take place in that phase. Suppose you are equally skilled in all phases of combat, you are prepared to take advantage of any weaknesses in your opponent. If you are a better grappler than your opponent, finish him or her off with an impressive body lock! Well-known examples of MMA organisations are the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Pride Fighting Championships.
